How it all Began
In 2009,the leadership team at Squamish United Church approached Sea to Sky Community Services about working together to create a new building that would strengthen both organizations and the communities they served. It was a concept that would create a beautiful new church sanctuary and help transform the delivery of social services in Squamish.
Land Donated
Over the next couple of years, staff and board members of the two organizations met to plan and design a building on the five city lots contributed by Squamish United Church to the strata partnership that would provide diverse community support and be a real enhancement to the social fabric of downtown Squamish.
Supported by an array of professional architects, engineers and planners, and with BC Housing getting on board, the group turned wishes and dreams into a solid plan: Centrepoint. A complex 30,000 sq. ft building encompassing subsidized rental apartments, community rooms, a preschool, rooms for dozens of programs, offices and a church sanctuary that will also be available as a community events and performance space.
Community Donors
Armed with District of Squamish approval to develop Centrepoint both groups then worked to raise the necessary funds to turn their plan into a reality. Community members volunteered their time to lead the fundraising efforts. In the end thousands of supporters - big and small - contributed to Centrepoint.
